The Poetry Blog for Lilliput Review
Perfect for the season. Fall is upon us. And with it Eliot.
Dear Don:Thank you for posting the incredible reading of "Donal Og". That was wonderful and very moving. I've forwarded it to a number of friends. Sometimes Joyce's story "The Dead" is referred to as the greatest short story ever written. I'm not enough of a critic to comment on that, but it certainly must rank close to the top? The story is the last of "Dubliners".Very Best,Jeffery
Charles, yes, it seems with Eliot he is always turned to death, and fall is the great leveler. Jeffrey, you are welcome. That reading never fails to grab folks. The movie, John Huston's last directing, is fantastic by the way. I have an old VHS copy which I use in the poetry class. It still hasn't been issued on DVD. I used to be a big fan of Ulysses but in my old age I think Dubliners is actually, in some ways, the finer achievement.Jim, the one word review! Perfect.Don
