Andrea Grillo's haiku as suddenly surprising as that hardening, as urgent as budding as syntax. A feat to behold. Heat chill. Thank you.
Donna, sometimes it pays to have a long lead time to publication. The heat cold thing just came naturally after the recent hellish week and now a little relief ...
Charles, now that captures the heat of summer ... a smell you can taste, as they say ...
the Grillo piece REALLY "flips"
in a little different form
well, (for me) this is an entire novella just as it is.
I "hear/see it as:
nipple-hard cold
who me
predictable
however, my "play w it is no improvement on her .... thrust

( &, where DO I know the name "Grillo" from ? Around U of Md ?D,C. in the 60's/70's ?
just came back to me
the Grillo that I knew was around Baltimore in the
early 70's as I recall close friend of Charlie and Pam Plymell and others.. Always taking pictures
about my age. I wonder is Andrea is his daughter?
Is Paul still alive & "kicking" ?
gonna search-out some more of Andrea Grillo's ... "stuff" she is new to me...
thanks.

Don't know the vintage, but the wine is fine. I read it look you, might just be two old men on the park bench.
Glad you liked.
Don
Thanks For publishing this one - a bit of fun for me.
Love the Issa companion poem - as usual a brilliant juxtaposition. Love all the comments too - I'm smiling.
Don,
here is a little bit re: Paul Grillo
http://www.unlikelystories.org/old/archives/grillo.html
I got something somewhere maybe in Cold Spring Journal or in Athanor re: Paul's work
maybe Origin has some of his "stuff"
or in Flute ?
Paul Grillo REALLY raised the bar
influenced lots of poets
& all pre this VISPO crap !
Woodland Rose, thanks for the kind words, I thought a little cool, a little heat, such a nice blend.
Andrea's poem is wonderful ...
Kokkie-san,
Don't know Paul's work - pre-vispo, eh? Nice summary and some amazing visuals here.
Don
not sure what the Bly poem has to do with
[...]-thing
as
being not sure has never detained my me from standing on one leg in the middle of this bog
& dipping in.... I must be related to that bird in Bly's poem
Paule did collages using among other things his photographs
did these things long before computer-fanagled images
became the norm..
anyway let s see some more of Andrea's "shorties"

Thanks for the tip ... the visuals are quite amazing ...
We all do seem to be standing in the muck on one leg (and in a different post).
I've published some of Andrea's things in the mag, but see this is the first online. Hmn.
best,
Don
Took me a while to 'get' it.
The internet's slow
and the nipple sure traveled slowly like an infant bullet.. slow precision.
Its a beauty. It has been a pleasure to read the variously delightful 'Wednesday Haiku' series.

Took me awhile also but well worth it. Glad you are enjoying the poems.

Paul Grillo did not have a daughter named Andrea. Yes, he was good friends with Charlie and Pam Plymell but was born, raised, lived and died in Philadelphia. I know all of this because I AM his daughter. He passed away on August 28, 2013 surrounded by his daughters and drifted away beyond the veil of this world on the lyrics of Van Morrison.
Dear Joanna:
Thanks so much for the clarification. I am sorry to hear about your loss.
Wishing you the best,
Don, Issa's Untidy Hut
