Live Forever: Ray Bradbury Celebration & Reading

For those within striking distance Tuesday evening, July 17th, there will be a celebration of the life and work of Ray Bradbury at Awesome Books, Downtown, 929 Liberty Ave, at 6:30 pm.  The reading is free, the bookstore is awesome, and Ray Bradbury touched us all often and deeply.  See the above for a list of who is reading what.

On the day he died, there was a touching tribute to Ray by a fan on Harlan Ellison's webpage that said it all:

"Mars seems unbearably far away today."

Join us for the celebration.

Don,

Bradbury deserves to be among the venerable stars. If I was in your town, I'd be at the celebration. I've taught him for years in my high school English classes: the writings never get 'old' and the kids loved it. He's one of the few writers who can compete with the 'smartphones'.

Glad to hear he is still connecting - the books still flying off our library shelves, of course.

I'm reading the Prologue to The Illustrated Man at the Tuesday reading and reflecting on what a tattoo meant to those of us growing up in the 50s and what it means now.

We have come a long way in a short time, but I believe I'll be mentioning Melville, too, for those who think it has changed all that much.

Wow, I would so like to go to that. I think I feel better just knowing it's happening though.

Yes, Steiger was excellent, and well cast, if against Hollywood type for a lead role. Bradbury's description of the illustrated man fits Steiger well.

Cheers, Charles. It should be fun.
