Don,
I believe 'rascally' is a very interesting choice for the translated haiku

In the roadside puddle
a single kite-
the dog who sniffs it

Bart, glad you liked the picture, thanks again for the poem ... just back after a week away, so I'm behind in many things. More soon.

best,
Don

Aditya:

I curious - is that kite as in a paper kite one flies on a string or kite as in bird?

best,
Don

Bart,

A great haiku. I missed it in the first comment dont know how!

Don,

Your curiosity has taken it in a completely different more interesting direction .. making a fulcrum out of, as I now realize, my careless usage of the word 'sniff'.

I only meant a paper kite one flies on a string!( a reflection that is).

Thanks, aditya ... funny how language works. The ku itself works either, or perhaps in both, way(s).
